The closest place to river raft near Vancouver is in the Squamish / Whistler area, about 2 hours north of the city. The Green and Cheakamus Rivers appeal to all paddlers, with rapid runs from Class I to IV.

  • The Nahatlatch River is the place to navigate steep continuous rapids up to Class IV.

  • Clearwater River in Wells Gray Provincial Park is probably one of the most scenic places to raft in BC. With levels ranging from Class III and IV - it's a great place for intermediate paddlers to explore!

  • Close to the Alberta border, near Golden, you'll find a good selection of whitewater runs on the Kicking Horse River that range from easy to advanced!

  • The Campbell and Oyster Rivers on Vancouver Island is the place to learn how to paddle with gentle runs and great scenery!

The best time to raft in BC is from May to September. As these are the busy summer months, you'll find that most rafting tour operators want you to book well in advance.

We think one of the best ways to enjoy the BC outdoors is to combine an exciting rafting trip with other activities like biking, hiking, or whale watching! You'll find that many outfitters and tour operators combine a variety of outdoor activities to complement their water excursions.


What do the classifications mean? (ie. Class II, III, IV) The classification table is intended to be a measure of difficulty.

Class I is considered to be the easiest, with Class V and VI proving to be extremely difficult and very risky.
