Chile Vacation - What to Do

Kayaking: Chile is a great choice for rafters and kayakers. It's well known for its stunning rivers and aggressive rapids. The Maipo, Teno, and Claro Rivers are close to Santiago, and are absolutely amazing! In Punta Arenas, there is excellent sea kayaking near the Strait of Magellan.

Horseback Riding: Explore the best of the Chilean Andes on horseback! There are all sorts of riding packages available from 1 day rides to 10 day adventure routes. See and experience Chile on a path less traveled, including rides as high as 11,000 feet in the Andes to spectacular Patagonia!

Mountain Biking: Near Santiago, you'll find a number of circuits that showcase some of the most beautiful mountain vistas and scenic valleys within Chile! In Pucon, there are a variety of bike trails ranging from 6 kilometers to 80 kilometers.

Skiing: With the season running from June through September - there are some really nice areas where you can hit the slopes, including Portillo, Valle Nevado, Farellones-El Colorado, and La Parva.

Getting To and Around Chile

Most major airlines fly into Santiago, with direct flights from a number of cities within the United States, including Dallas, Miami, New York, and Atlanta. You can also fly direct from Toronto, Canada.

If you're planning a Chile Vacation from Europe, the country is well served by Air France, Iberia, LAN, and KLM airlines. Most flights however are not direct from every departure point in Europe.

We also recommend that if your time is short or limited in Chile, that you use the domestic airlines which offer frequent service to a number of destinations within the country. LAN Airlines, Sky Airlines, and Aerolineas del Sur all cover Chile, and it's a good idea to check which each carrier for any last minute deals!

This is a great way to cram in as much adventure as possible, especially if want to see and experience everything from the Atacama Desert to Pucon to Torres del Paine National Park!

For families, and others who want a slower pace, renting a car is the perfect way to see Chile. The roads are well maintained and you don't need an international driver's license to rent a vehicle.

Chile Vacation Packages and Rentals

An excellent way to experience Chile is to book a package holiday that best covers the area you are visiting. There are travel packages where you can discover the best of Chile, or specific vacation spots that highlight only one or two destinations.

An economical way to see Chile is to book into a vacation rental home. There are a number of Chile vacation rental homes throughout the country available by owners at attractive weekly rates.

Chile Vacation - Best Time to Go

The summer months from December to February are extremely busy. It's during these months that hotels (and everything else that has to do with travel) are expensive! Accommodation should be booked well in advance if you do go during this time.

We think the best time to see Chile is in the spring time from September to December, or during Autumn from March to early June. Both of these "shoulder seasons" are great for exploring Chile, and you'll find less crowds and better deals on hotels and other accommodations.

Patagonia is best visited from March to the end of April. The weather tends to be better during these 2 months than at other times of the year!

We've only scraped the surface of what to see and do in Chile. Keep checking back as we add to our pages here about our experiences and travel ideas in Chile and surrounding countries.

For sure, Chile is one long country and as such, there are a variety of endless adventure activities to enjoy!

Why not consider Chile for your next vacation before it’s discovered by the masses and see for yourself what this country has to offer!
