China Vacation Adventure Activities and More!
China Vacation Highlights and Attractions
China is another one of our favorite destinations. Take our word for it - once you've explored Asia, you'll have the desire to keep going back and back. And China is no exception!

Whether you choose to explore Shanghai, Beijing, or vast areas of the mainland, there are literally hundreds of things to see and do on your next China vacation!
Some say going to Asia is an adventure in itself, and this is true if you've never ventured out too far from home soil. Just imagine crowding into a busy market at midnight, walking through Tiananmen Square, or climbing the steep steps of the Great Wall. At every turn adventure is waiting!
Beijing - Things to See and Do
Beijing has many attractions to see within the city and surrounding area. The most popular sights are Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace.
To see the Great Wall, you can easily organize a tour or arrange for a driver to take you out! There are 3 popular locations that most tours visit. Badaling, Juyongguan, and Mutianyu all offer spectacular views of the wall!
Because Badaling is close to Beijing, it's one of the most crowded especially in the summer months. We highly recommend Mutianyu which is less crowded and provides an excellent hike or cable car up to the Wall. To come down, take the sled named 'Speed' and enjoy the thrill of tobogganing back to the start.
Tiananmen Square is extremely busy no matter what time of year. To visit take a taxi to one of the access points, as it's very difficult to walk in to from the city. The Forbidden City is not to be missed.
It's very easy to explore the area on your own, so be aware of the many so-called 'tour guides' offering you tickets. You can obtain tickets at the counter for the standard price.
Shanghai - Things to See and Do
Shanghai is like the 'New York' of China. It's a modern city with a number of unforgettable attractions for everyone. The Yu Yuan Gardens, the Oriental Pearl TV tower and the Shanghai Museum should not be missed.
The Bund also locally known as "Waitan" is an excellent place to experience central Shanghai. This tree-lined promenade offers spectacular views along the Huangpu River!
About one hour out of Shanghai is the stunning township of Zhouzhuang. We think of this place as the 'Venice' of China! Located between Shanghai and Suzhou, it is known as the No. 1 water town in China.
If you have the time, we highly recommend seeing 2 other water towns close by - Tongli and Zhujiajiao. With good planning it's possible to visit all 3 in one day.
Mainland China
A tour down the Yangtze River is an ideal way to see the country and explore different regions. You can take a one day cruise or you can book a longer one that lasts up to 2 weeks.
Xi’an is another place you must include in your itinerary. It is one of China's oldest cities and is home to the Museum of Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses.
China Vacation - Adventure Activities
For great hiking try out the spectacular Yunnan Stone Forest located in Kunming. The Dadie Forest contains a number of good hikes in and around the 300 foot Dadie waterfall.
Yunnan Province is also extremely popular for cycling. Bordering Laos and Myanmar, there are plenty of sights to see including beautiful lakes and mountain vistas.
Rock Climbing tours have been established around the Yulong River Valley as well as in Yangshuo.
There are a variety of climbs available for all abilities. You will also find that most tour operators provide all equipment needed for a safe climb.

Kayaking is possible in many areas. We recommend paddling down the Li River to Puyi. Along this route you can explore ancient river villages and have a good sense of what rural life is really like in China!
