Grand Canyon Vacation Activities
Mule Trips
Mule rides are a fantastic and unforgettable way to experience the Grand Canyon. They can be booked from the South Rim all year round and at the North Rim from May to October. You must book at least 6 to 12 months in advance - these rides fill up quickly.
One day and two day rides are available on the south side and half day rides can be arranged on the North side. As an alternative, horse riding can be organized for 1 or 2 hours on both sides of the Canyon.
Hiking
This is probably the most popular way to enjoy the Canyon. For families its gives everyone the chance to see spectacular scenery from different vantage points. Both South and North Rims offer unparalleled vistas, with some of the easier hikes on paved trails.
It should be noted that virtually all of the trails down to the Canyon floor are not easy.
Some South Rim trails that we like are the Hermit Trail and Bright Angel Trail. For something a little less steep, try the popular Rim Trail.
North Rim Hikes include the short Bright Angel Point Trail and the easy to navigate Bridle Trail. There are also numerous difficult trails to choose from as well, which require an early start in the morning before it gets too hot!
River Rafting in the Grand Canyon
Try a guided raft trip on the Colorado River. You can choose from half day to multi-day trips along smooth or rapid waters.
Some whitewater rafting tours book up a year in advance - so to avoid disappointment, it's good to plan your adventure early.
